PeraBuild - Various - Pera Fix
Product Code: MB-6
Features: Increases Cement Plaster Flexibility
PERA FIX is a cement additive free of halogens and other aggressive constituents. It is eminently suitable for the modification of building plaster.
-
As a concrete and plaster additive (improves elasticity, adhesion and ratio of transverse and compressive strength) and in the production of plastics a modified mortar.
-
As additive in the production of concrete flooring (improves levelling, adhesion and enhances the early and ultimate strength of the floor).

Application Instructions
-
Consolidation of old crumbling cement floors:
-
Clean thoroughly.
-
Saturate floor with PeraFix: Water in a ratio of 1:4.
-
Avoid an excess of PeraFix:Water, as this can lead to the formation of a film, that becomes sticky under the influence of heat and can be peeled off.
-
Coating of freshly laid cement floors - to strengthen the surface and as protection against dirt:
-
Dilute PeraFix with water in a ratio of 1:4.
-
Apply to floor, as soon as it can be walked upon, by means of spraying, or with a rubber spreader.
-
This measure is particularly important if surfacing is ultimately to be carried out.
-
Reducing shrinkage and the danger of cracking in floating floors:
For this, 1 to 2% PeraFix, calculated on the cement content, is added to the mortar. If poor quality sand is used this amount should be increased to 10%. The PeraFix is best added to the make-up water or, if a mechanical mixer is used, directly to the mixer. It is advisable to apply a coating, as described in "2", to the floating floor.
-
Levelling compound for mastic asphalt:
For this purpose PeraFix is mixed with fine, washed sand or with river sand until a mixture, which can easily be trowelled, is produced. The ratio of PeraFix: Sand is about 1:3 by weight.
-
Levelling compound for concrete:
Portland Cement (type PZ 275) is mixed with fine river sand (max. particle size: 0,5 - 1 mm), in a ratio of 1:1,5 to 1:2 per weight. The coarser the grains, the more sand can be used. The mixture is moistened with PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:1. This mixture is applied to the cleaned substrate that has been saturated with a mixture of Perafix:Water in a ratio 1:4. The applied levelling compound must be kept moist for 1 to 2 days. The addition of fused alumina cement, to the Portland cement, accelerates hardening. We recommend the application of a mixture as described in "2".
-
Repair of damaged or uneven concrete flooring:
Unevenness in cement flooring and in concrete is, after thorough cleaning of the substrate, saturated with a mixture of PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:4. Before this coating has dried, a mortar, consisting of 3 parts by volume of sand (particle size 0 to 3 mm) and 1 part by volume ordinary Portland cement, compounded with a mixture of PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:4, is used to make good the damage. More severe defects can be prefilled with this mortar and a levelling compound, as described under 5, applied. This mortar can also be used for the preparation of actual flooring.
-
Increasing adhesion and elasticity, as well as reducing the tendency to crack, of terrazzo or single layer
hard concrete flooring: The substrate is pre-treated with a mixture of Perafix:Water in a ratio of 1:4. The mortar is prepared with the same mixture, instead of water. In the case of double-layer, hard concrete flooring, these recommendations apply only to the lower layer.
-
Base for bonding old and new concrete:
The old, thoroughly cleaned floor, is primed with a mixture of PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:4. A mixture, consisting of 1 to 2 parts by volume of sand, particle size 0 to 3 mm and, 1 part by volume of cement, mixed with PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:4, is brushed into the wet priming coat. Ordinary cement mortar (or concrete) is cast onto this base, while it is still wet.
-
Towelling compounds based on cement or casein for substrates:
These can be made to adhere more easily to the substrate if a mixture of PeraFix:Water, in a ratio of 1:4 to 1:8, is used instead of water for preparing the compound.
-
Smoothing, waterproofing compound for spraying, brushing or towelling:
A mixture of: 1 part by volume PeraFix 1 part by volume Ordinary white or grey Portland cement 2 parts by volume Water is thoroughly stirred and applied to the surface by means of a spray gun (2,5mm jet, 2.5 atg.), a brush or a smoothing trowel. By further dilution with water, a thinner coat can be applied. This mixture can also be used as a decor plaster, but the mixture may have to be adjusted by up to 1 part by volume clean fine sand (0 to 1mm). The cured coating may then be coated with any conventional builder’s paint.
-
Improved adhesion of renderings:
The bond strength of wall and ceiling renderings can be improved, and their elasticity increased, especially if
the surfaces are smooth, by the addition of 5% PeraFix, calculated on the make-up water
-
Increasing the tensile strength of synthetic/natural anhydrite flooring or plaster moulds:
The addition of 5% PeraFix, calculated on the binder increases the bending tensile strength of synthetic anhydrite flooring by approximately 50% (measured on 4 X 4 X 16 cm prisms after thorough drying). The same applies to natural anhydrite. Plaster moulds (e.g. models) can be made practically unbreakable and highly abrasion resistant by a correspondingly high addition of PeraFix, even if the structural components are thin. The desired amount must be determined by preliminary trials, depending on the stress and type of plaster used.
-
Grouting for all types of wall and floor tiles:
A dry mix consisting of: White cement 300 p.b.w. Pera marble dust 600 p.b.w. Rutile Titanium Dioxide 100 p.b.w. is made into a paste with a mixture of PeraFix:Water in a ratio of 1:9. The Titanium Dioxide may be replaced by any inorganic light fast pigment, or mixtures thereof, for coloured grouting. Care must be taken, that these pigments are compatible with cement.
NB: Remember - trials should be carried out before application, to familiarise yourself in the use of PeraFix, as well as determining the optimum quantities to be used. PeraFix is not a "super-plasticiser" (for use in high-density concrete), although it has plasticising properties and a reduction in make-up water is usually possible. PeraFix is active in the mortar (better workability, flow, plasticising action, colour development, etc), as well as in the cured concrete (higher transverse and compressive strength, improved elasticity and adhesion, as well as better colour development and colour retention in pigmented systems). PeraFix "cures" by the loss of water, therefore we recommend that PeraFix modified concrete be left to dry after hardening. PeraFix is not recommended for use underwater.
