PLAST SCRATCH is a superior quality, rubbing plaster for use on interior or exterior surfaces. Available in three grades: Fine (1,6mm), Medium (3,2mm) and Coarse (4,8mm). Seal surfaces with SEALER (MB-30). Two different methods of application may be employed on the prepared substrate: After two hours drying time, apply a primer coat (PVA GRADE 2 –MEL), colour matched to the PLAST SCRATCH). After a further 2 hours drying time apply the PLAST SCRATCH with a steel trowel and smooth down to the thickness of the pebbles. The plaster is then patterned by means of rubbing down with a plastic trowel, taking care that the trowel remains clean at all times. The pattern may be varied horizontally, vertically, circular, perpendicular or crossed.   The PLAST SCRATCH may also be applied directly to the prepared substrate, in which case care should be taken that the pebbles, penetrating onto the substrate, do not leave discolourations in the plaster. When this second method is employed, White PLAST SCRATCH may be used and subsequently over coated with a PVA GRADE 1 (MEAG) OR PVA GRADE 2 (MEL) of the required colour.   Previously painted surfaces: Remove all dust, dirt, grease and loose or flaking paint. Glossy paints must be sanded to a matt finish (it is not recommended to apply PLAST SCRATCH over Enamel paints). Make good any holes and cracks with Pera Mastix and continue as in (a).   Lime washed surfaces: Remove limewash with a steel brush. Seal surface with BONDING LIQUID (MB-100) (preferably 2 coats). After 24 hours drying time continue as in (a).   Roughcast and textured mineral plaster finishes: Sand down walls to a smooth, even finish, wash down, leave to dry and apply 1 coat BONDING LIQUID (MB-100). After 24 hours drying time continue as in (a). Surfaces with microbiological problems (fungal or algae growth): Liberally apply an approved detergent and leave for 48 hours. Remove all loose matter and fungal or algae growth with a wire brush. Apply 1 coat anti-fungal Pera Seal, followed by anti-fungal PLAST SCRATCH. Where a primer coat is used, this too should be anti-fungicidal. Microbiological problems are usually caused by faulty construction or design - find and remove the cause of the problem whenever possible. Never apply PLAST SCRATCH in direct sunlight. Use a canvas or plastic sheet to shade areas where work is in progress. Whenever possible, apply on side of structure facing away from sun.   On very large areas apply PLAST SCRATCH in panels (or fields). Allowance should be made for these panels during the design stage of a project. These panels would ideally encompass no more than the area that can be plastered by a single applicator in a shift. Wherever necessary, care must be taken that these panels are easily accessible from the scaffolding.   Where it is possible apply only one batch to a continuous panel or wall. Where this is impossible, ensure that the colour of all batches used, matches.   A single panel or wall should never be left uncompleted. If work on a panel is interrupted for any reason, care must be taken that the working edge of the PLAST SCRATCH is kept moist, so that application can continue without a joint showing in this zone.   If more than one person is doing the application, care must be taken that the resultant pattern of any one person matches that of all the others. When choosing persons to apply the plaster, take note that plasterers are better suited than painters. It is however advisable to include an experienced painter in the team, because PLAST SCRATCH manifests properties of both a paint, as well as a plaster. NB: Remember - a system is only as good as the substrate. Replaster walls where the old plaster is crumbling or detached. Never use inferior sealers or primers. One coat CLEAR COAT (MB-9) is recommended for interior application over these systems in high traffic areas, to improve gloss and cleanability and to decrease dirt retention.
